For a relatively few years, almost all of the rifle marks have been launched to conquer the most economical segment of the market. In this sense, SAVAGE was one of the first manufacturers to enable a basic entry step to the brand, in this case led by the AXIS range. The SAVAGE AXIS is a very economical rifle, designed to attract new hunters that begin in the kinetic activity or as a back-up rifle for those experienced users. This AXIS XP variant features a 3-9x40 factory mounted mm.

It is an economic rifle and therefore a Spartan, but it does not renounce accuracy and reliability. Logically this reduction of price obliges some notable tolls regarding the components used in other families of this brand. The most important being the shooting system, in this case it does NOT use its famous ACCUTRIGGER trigger, but a more traditional and simple concept. Its behavior is acceptable, compared to the brand's reference trigger, this one of the AXIS has more route and is somewhat heavier. On the other hand, it has a two-way after-action insurance, unlike the traditional three present in practice all other ranges.

Another element where the economy of the product is appreciated is the tin, it is made of resistant black polymer, with cuts and texturized areas in pistole and hand-held, to ensure grip with wet hands. In the case of the shooter also adopts a small cap at the base of the gun, allowing a firm and comfortable push. Its intermediate length allows most shooters to settle without major problems. It pleasantly surprises the cantonera, with its ventilated and soft cushion. The design of the slots in this cantonera creates a rigid middle area and a soft exterior.

Unlike other competition rifles, the feeding system is by means of a polymer and metal removable charger, with capacity for four rounds. The charger, of metal and polymer, is emptied in the belly of the culata, remaining at the bottom of it. The canopy also has two bolts bearing swivel rings, to be able to place a portafusil strap.

As for action, this is the traditional SAVAGE, in rounded shapes and that already only in sight shows its robustness. As indicated by the name "SR" (Suppressor Ready) the same ends in a thread with thread passage 14x1. Manufactured in carbon steel with a striated following the technique of “button rifling”, from which this manufacturer is a specialist, one of the circumstances responsible for its good accuracy. Another feature, which makes the rifle precise, is the binding system between the cannon and the action, by twist, which allows to establish an exact “headspace”.

As we have pointed out in the introduction, the difference with the AXIS version is that the AXIS XP family brings a series of 3-9x40 mm mounted and put at the factory. It is a lightweight viewer (326 g), economical, in the focal plane with 1” tube and 1⁄4 MOA settings, which is characterized by its tremendous strength.

In short, the AXIS is a very economic rifle, which save the trigger, has the main features that make rifles famous SAVAGE, accuracy and reliability. A spartan weapon with the essentials, which will attract many new shooters and those who seek a full-fledged hunting tool by spending as little as possible.
