Remington 700

The Remington 700 model was born in 1962, it was an update of an earlier series, specifically the 721/722/725 that appeared in 1948, as a response to the search for a more simple and economical successful system than the Mauser 98, but that had its reliability and safety, since it was the benchmark in the post-war years.

The principle of operation of the Remington action is to push the cartridge from the charger to the chamber, instead of keeping it subject by the ass of the pod to the face of the bolt head by a huge extractive nail, guiding it at all times. In the Remington 700, the excerpt nail is integrated into one of the bolts of the lock, in front of the huge and voluminous extractor that longitudinally runs the body of the lock of the Mauser 98. The expulsion system is also simplified, by means of a piston on the head of the lock, in front of the metallic foil system of the mechanism drawer in the Mauser 98.

The successful system is based on the most renowned feature that has provided Remington, the concept of the three safety rings, which wrap the ass of the cartridge pod. On the one hand, there is the head of the lock, which envelops part of the asste of the pod, holding it through the extractive nail, this constitutes the first ring. After pushing the lock, it will settle in the back of the barrel, anchoring through two solid tetons, this is the second ring. Finally, part of the action surrounds the whole set, this is the third and last ring.

This type of lock, which encloses part of the cartridge pod, is a characteristic that provides great rigidity and therefore more consistent support, which eventually results in greater precision, one of the main signs of identity of the Remington rifles along with their safety. This rigidity is also thanks to the fact that the action is machined on a steel block and on the other, with the deep threading and perfect alignment of the barrel to it.

Finally, the already proverbial reliability and precision of the Remington 700, has been increased since last 2018, as a result of an ambitious investment program, which has enabled the renewal of machinery and processes. This has made Remington’s rifles closer to those of the “custom” manufacturers than to those of serial manufacturing.
